Radio waves

📱Mobile and light waves📱

Hi everyone, Ever held your phone and wondered, "How on Earth does this little technology work so well?" Let's journey through the invisible waves that make it all possible!

📻1. The Radio waves (Click heading for extension reading):

  • Size: Radio waves can range in size! They can be as short as a meter or stretch out for a whopping 100 kilometres.
  • Where do you find them?: Have you seen those tall towers, often placed on higher grounds or taller buildings? Those are radio masts, responsible for sending signals to your favourite TV and radio stations.
  • Strength: Thanks to their long wavelengths, radio waves can smoothly bend around obstacles like mountains in a phenomenon called diffraction.
  • Travelling in the atmosphere: These waves can travel hundreds of kilometres from their source, making it possible to catch your favourite radio show from a distance.
  • Radar technology: Radar sends out radio wave pulses and eagerly waits for their return echoes. This technology helps air traffic controllers track planes and fishermen to track maps.

🍛2. Microwave mysteries:

  • Hot pies and microwave: Ever bitten into a pie, only to find the outside lukewarm and the inside scorching? Microwave heat the moist parts of food more intensely. That's why the juicy mince inside gets hotter than the drier pastry outside.
  • Beyond the kitchen: Microwaves aren't just kitchen gigs; they've some cool gadgets.
    • 🚓 Speed cameras: Monitoring your speed on the road.
    • 🎾Sports: Measuring the speed of tennis balls during big tournaments.
    • 📶Wi-Fi: Letting you connect your device to the internet
    • 📱Mobile communication: Helping your phone to send and receive signals to and from towers
    • 🌐GPS: Global positioning system, lets you connect with the satellites so you never lose your way.

From texting to tracking, these waves are the magical technology helping you in every day of your life.
